Daily Schedule for Dogs – A Day in the Life of an Italian Greyhound (Thelifeofnello Edition)

Of course every dog is different and therefore has different needs. But to show you what life with a dog can be like we will give you an overview of what a normal day looks like for us:

7:30 AM – Time to Wake Up

Nello normally gets up around 7:30 in the morning.

8:00 AM – First Short Walk

First thing we do after Nello wakes up is to go outside for a quick walk. Normally our first walk is not much longer than 15 minutes and only so he can do his business 😉

8:30 AM – Breakfast

After our first walk it’s time for breakfast. Nello always gets two meals a day. We always switch up his food as he is a bit of a picky eater. At the moment one of his meals is kibble and the other meal is canned food.

9:00 AM – Naptime

While everybody is working, Nello sleeps. He is quite independent and is fine with not doing anything, as long as he can be close to us. Of course it wasn’t always like that – he had to learn as a puppy to be quiet and not ask for attention all the time.

12:00 PM – Lunchtime Walk

During lunchtime, we usually go for another walk. If we have the time, we will do our long walk then. Our long walk is usually around 45 minutes, depending what the weather is like. When we don’t have that much time, we only go out for a little pee break of 15 minutes.

1:00 PM – Naptime

After that it’s back to work – which means naptime for Nello again. The good thing about going for a long walk during lunchtime is that he will be super tired and sleep through the rest of the day.

3:00 PM – Snack

In the afternoon, he will usually get a little snack – most of the time it’s something to chew on to keep him busy for a while.

5:00 PM – Another Walk

Around 5:00 PM we go on another walk. Depending on how long our lunchtime walk was, we either now go on the big walk or only have a short pee break.

6:00 PM – Dinner

After that, it’s time for dinner. As mentioned before, he either has kibble or canned food.

7:00 PM – Playtime, Tricks, Cuddling, Napping

The rest of the day consists of a lot of cuddling, practicing tricks, playtime and more napping.

10:30 PM – Last Short Walk

Right before we go to bed, we go on the last short walk of the day.

11:00 – Bedtime

And then it’s time for bed 🙂

Conclusion on the Daily Schedule for Dogs

So this is what thelifeofnello looks like 😉 Be aware that while it is good for dogs to have a routine it doesn’t necessarily have to be the exact same schedule every day. Even for us, every day is a bit different and sometimes, our day can be structured completely differently (and it works just as fine).

But routines will help a lot with potty training and will be very good for first-time dog owners to get used to life with a dog and to learn to read their signs.
